There are 2 different classes offered at Great Basin Bicycles during the winter.
Compu-Trainer Classes (Mainly Winter Months):
Compu-Trainer Classes are offered all winter long. We have 16 total units, 2 different banks of 8. Each bank is independently linked together so that 8 riders can ride a course created by me (Rich Staley – Owner of Great Basin Bicycles,) each around 20 miles long. Some a little shorter, and some longer. There are uphills, and downhills. We program into the computer how much you weigh, and which unit you are on, one through eight. Then as you ride the course, the computer will change the resistance on your unit based on your weight, and what percent grade you are going up or down. The computer displays the course with ups and downs, and shows where all riders are. Then below the course, it displays each riders specific information. So, it will list in a column the percent grade, how many feet behind the next rider you are, unless you are first. It then lists how fast you are going, your average speed, wattage, average wattage, heart rate (optional), cadence (optional) and watts per kilogram. Unlike a spin class, these classes are done ON YOUR PERSONAL BIKE. It does not matter what bike you use, road bike, mountain bike, or hybrid. You just have to make sure that you have a slick tire on the back of your bike. Then we hook you up, and we work with you to help you take your cycling to the next level. If you just want to ride to stay in shape, that is ok also. We can structure any class around the people that show up. That is what makes this more fun.
If you have a couple of riders that want to do an independent/private class, let me know. I can set any class up for anytime of the day as long as it does not interfere with my current scheduled classes. So if you are interested, give me a call. Rich at Great Basin Bicycles 775-825-8258
Spin Scan – Bike Fit (Year Round):
This is the most valuable tool that I have encountered in over 20 years in this business. Spin Scan by Racer Mate enables you to take your bike and hook it up to a computer and analyze your pedal stroke. It will show you a graphical representation of your pedal stroke, and show you what part of the pedal stroke you are using, and not using. It will show you wattage, speed, cadence, and efficiency. By using this tool, we can do a bike fit like no other shop in town. I can analyze what muscle groups you are using, and which groups you are not using. Then by moving your saddle up, down, back and fourth, moving handlebars we can watch to see what happens to your efficiency. So we are able to do a dynamic bike fit based on your flexibility, your body build, your wattage, and any personal challenges you might have (ie. fused vertebrae, one leg shorter than the other, ACL surgery, etc.) Most bike fits only look at a static fit, and some do a dynamic fit, but only one does a dynamic fit showing you your pedal stroke, efficiency and works with you and how you fit YOUR BIKE!!! Call Rich at Great Basin Bicycles if you have any questions, or want to schedule a fit / efficiency test. 775-825-8258 These bike fits cost $70.00 and will take about 1 hr.
